entry for Miss Doll History 2011
Pardon the non-transparency but I made it specifically with the MDH site background in mind. I chose to enter the pageant with Marlene Dietrich. For those not in the know, she is a famous German entertainer with a lengthy career that started (at least in America) around the 1930s. She later continued her career outside of the film industry and into cabarets well into the 70s.
Her style and acting was trademarkedly androgynous and that's why I chose the tux she wore in 'Morrocco' as the full-body of 'how she became famous'. I tried to capture her strong cheekbones and heavy-lidded eyes which was almost always accentuated in her films by strategic lighting coming from above. I kept the colours muted to maintain the 'Old Hollywood' feel that one would get from her movies.
I wrote the name out myself, although it is influenced by Metroscript
and the amazing hand-made fonts of early Hollywood movie posters.
Critique is always welcome! Would be helpful, too, seeing as this is entered in an ongoing pagaent!
